Thoughts on the UN Walk-Out of the Iranian President’s Horrific Speech

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the United Nations in 2008 6 by david_shankbone, on Flickr

Alright, so although we live in MN, the world is still out there, and it's a little crazy!  All week I've been editing world news, and one of the most interesting stories I've read this week was how Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and members of the UN walked out on Iranian President Ahmadinejad's speech at the United Nations in New York.

Here's one good article on it, although there are quite a few (I am in no way affiliated with this one – just a well-written one I found): Iran-presidents-911-speech-sparks-UN-walk-out. It is absolutely UNBELIEVABLE that the President of Iran could say the things he did about 9/11, the US,  Americans, etc, while just blocks away from the former World Trade Center.

Among the things he said (I'm paraphrasing here), included that most Americans believe that 9/11 was a conspiracy of the American government – that the Taliban was just a scapegoat for Americans to pin the blame on, and other vile statements about how  the Taliban, al-Queda, and interestingly, Iran, has a complete lack of culpability in any of this – that it was all the US's fault – that we got bombed, etc – and that our reason for doing so is because we apparently support Israel over Iran.

It's my opinion, and this is not based on a professional degree or anything – but this guy is a lunatic. Previous reports in the news within the past few months show 'shenanigans' on a grand scale on his part.

First, he built nuclear power facilities, AGAINST the UN and NATO'S requests and will.  I'm reporting this from memory, so I might not get this perfectly right (but you can Google it yourself), but he said he did it to prove that Iran can use Nuclear Power responsibly.

Give me a break.

Once the first Nuclear Power Facility was already built, he agreed to follow UN sanctions on it – but with Russia being their overseer…. In case you didn't know this, Russia has been hand-in-hand with Iran for quite a while now.

The waste from Nuclear Power Plants is what is used to make nuclear weapons.  Iran promised to make 30 or 40 more nuclear facilities, as quickly as possible, with Russia being the primary country responsible for taking care of the waste from them responsibly.

Indeed.

Then, Iran comes out with a new unmanned aerial bomber, which, the Iranian President said again, was never going to be used except to 'encourage peace.'   Read this unbelievable quote from MSNBC:

Speaking to a group of officials, Ahmadinejad said, “The jet, as well as being an ambassador of death for the enemies of humanity, has a main message of peace and friendship.”

So, an unmanned bomber's purpose is to bring a message of peace and friendship?  Why don't I believe that?  And who exactly are the enemies of humanity?  Bears and Tigers?

Those who know me, know that I am passionate about Human Rights, and I do think many Muslim people are being horribly treated in our country.   It is not fair to blame a whole group on actions a few have done.

But as for the UN and Secretary Clinton walking out on the Iranian President's speech?  Good for them. I wouldn't sit through the insane ramblings of a psychopath either.

I'm glad it was taped though – I still believe Iran has the potential to be incredibly dangerous to us.
