I was born in Upper Michigan and learned there, living on a small farm amidst a panorama of seasons, to appreciate all of the beauties of God's creation. It was there that I developed an interest in creative art and writing. As a retired R.N. I now find time to explore my creativity and share it with others. I hope that I can inspire others to become more aware of all the everyday gifts in nature that are all around us.

Yes, we know it is not Valentine’s Day yet but I think this is an appropriate story for this season, because, in a way, it is a small miracle, which I would like to share with my readers. First of all, I am not a spring chicken, at age 77, though I am a very young at heart senior woman, who is not afraid to take chances when it come to matters of the heart. My husband passed away almost five years ago and I have been going through a long transition and adjustment phase, in search of the girl I used to be.

Some women, will certainly be able to identify with that, I am sure. I am nothing like Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love, but in a way, there are similarities. So I went to visit a free dating site on the internet, Plenty of Fish.com with the hopes that perhaps I would reach out and make new friendships. It is a very well organized site and seems to have a person’s best interests at heart.

I always thought that I would be content living alone in my condo doing my artwork, volunteering and caring for loved ones around me.  But recently I have seen friends who are alone and wishing that they had a different sort of life, yet they did nothing about it to change their circumstances. I believe that change in our lives is good and it keeps our minds active and helps us to be more interesting when we connect with other people and grow in our relationships. It is too easy to settle in and life can become a routine  and I did not want that for myself so I spread my wings ,in a leap of faith, that God would guide my path.

Fortunately, at the same time, there was a devoted grandson who put his widowed grandfather on that same dating site, because grandpa did not have a computer nor the interest in one. So the story moved on and led us to meeting for a three hour lunch and unending conversation because we had so much in common, including the fact that we both named our son and daughter the same names, Donna and Bruce. This all happened two weeks ago, but it seems like a year ago because we both feel like we have known each other for a long time. Since that meeting, we have become a twosome and we are looking forward to sharing our years and growing old together. Now, we look forward to each new day with anticipation and sharing our lives together, love and laughter, along with whatever may come, but  knowing that we have been given another chance at happiness as a compatible twosome, because we are willing to take a chance and follow our heart.

It is our small miracle and if our story rekindles feelings of love in at least one person’s life, it will have accomplished it’s purpose..

  1. This is beautiful, and I’m so happy for the two of you! What a lovely story, and no one deserves it more Lenore! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  2. Way to go Lenore. There is a lot more to life than sitting in a rocker alone and watching the world pass you by. I will say a prayer that your new found friendship blossoms into a mutual friendship for the two of you. And may God work the magic he intends.
